Cognitive fluency

What is easy to read and understand feels easier to act on.

01 What it is

Customers do not reward complexity. They reward clarity. If people need to translate your offer before they understand it, you have already lost attention.

A familiar structure helps too. When the brain knows where to look and what each line means, the message is easier to process, and easy-to-process messages are easier to act on.

Fluent messages can also feel more credible. That is a reason to use the idea carefully: an easy-to-read claim is not the same as a true one.

02 How to spot it

One idea, one big number, plain words. Nothing in the picture competes with the main line.

03 What it leans on

Processing-fluency research: statements that are easier to process tend to be judged as more likely true (Reber and Schwarz, 1999).
